Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency is a website which hosts video and commentary looking at the portrayals of female characters in popular media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for nearly 10 years. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource to educate women about their role in the narratives of pop culture, is her brainchild. She also serves as the director of operations. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture she also seeks to bring attention to the targeted harassment of women and the other marginalized groups of people in the online world. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in social and political thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is well-known and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. As a university student she became concerned about issues related to gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. The determined lady had planned to start a web-based series on gender-based representations in video games. However, she ended up being the victim of a harassment online campaign. However, the attacks did not discourage her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. In recognition of the many achievements she's made for feministism, she's recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a media journalist. She is also the director and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit organisation that studies pop culture depictions of women.
